Butterflies 3 – 5yrs

Our Butterflies have access to 3 separate areas of the room, that children can free flow to, including our creative room, main play room and calm space. Children also have the option to free flow into our dedicated Forest Garden, which is attached to the Butterfly room. We encourage school readiness by offering various learning opportunities linked into the Early Years Foundation Stage. Children have a number & letter of the week, which we communicate to parents through Tapestry. We also do P.E sessions, to encourage physical activity and independence by dressing and undressing into our P.E kits. This is then celebrated at the end of summer with a Sports Day, that parents can come and watch – and even get involved in!

Daily opportunities are created to allow children to learn in a way which best suits them, surrounding individual children’s pedagogy. Children engage in messy and creative activities daily and have access to high quality tools and resources which are stored at child’s height to allow them the freedom to change and choose activities themselves.

We encourage children to have a say in how their day runs, and children have the chance to vote and choose various key features of their day, using their voting station. We have daily kitchen helpers and garden monitors to allow children the responsibility of looking after their own space and helping the staffing team. This promotes self confidence and empowers children to take on roles and responsibilities.

Our Butterflies have a huge presence in the local community. We work closely with a local elderly care home as part of our intergenerational partnership, and often send cards and pictures of what we have been up to. We visit our local greengrocers, where the children will pick plants and vegetables for our growing boxes and even pay for this themselves. We even use the bus stop next to nursery to take visits further afield to explore the world around us for example, our annual Christmas pantomime trip, museums and lots more.
